The Hat

Marshall has had this funny bucket (or Gilligan) hat for over a year. Every once in a while he brings it out of his room and wears it around. He'll be sad when he grows out of it! He decided to ham it up in his had one morning. He brought it out of his room with him when he got up.

And then he climbed in his Mega Bloks box! Too funny!

And then messy I-just-ate-I-mean-wore-breakfast Malcom stole the hat!

I think Malcom will be excited when Marshall grows out of the hat. :)

Practicing Being Big

It can be tough for Marshall to adjust to new things, so we're introducing potty training a little at a time and going by his interest level. We've had one big success so far, but Marshall ALWAYS loves to wear big boy undies.

I think they make him feel like a superhero. :)

Popcorn Party!

Marshall is on a special diet to help with his talking and social skills. He desn't eat gluten or casein (a compound found in dairy products), but he can have popcorn popped on the stove. So one afternoon I made him some as a treat and went back in the kitchen to clean up. I heard a lot of quiet, so I had to check and see what the boys were up to. They were having a party! Which was a little scary, since Malcom is too little for popcorn, but he was not interested in EATING it, just crunching it with his hands.

Crunch, crunch, crunch!

Marshall really likes popcorn. And the remote.

Now, I bet you thought MARSHALL made this mess, right? I thought so. But after a few minutes, i caught something that makes me pretty sure Malcom was the popcorn dumper!

I want to be big!

Malcom LOVES it when we let him use Marshall's old booster seat for his meal. He now eats rice or oatmeal cereal with apple juice and all kinds of pureed fruits and veggies. Except sweet potatoes. He eats them, but then there is a lot of puke later. Weird. And he won't take a bottle, but sometimes a sippy cup of watered down juice. He wants to eat enything we do. He also LOVES to steal the spoon!

And support the Seahawks, of course!

Just Like Pa

We all know Marshall wants to be my dad when he grows up . . . Pa is his very favorite person! So Marshall has decided to paint. He tried finger paints.

They were gooey and slimy.

And he thought they were funny!

He likes tempa paint even better . . . all those fun brushes, stamps, and rollers!

We are really excited because Marshall has some sensory problems and textures like pudding, sour cream, and paint really freaked him out. When his specialists brought paint he tried it and then cried a lot until they put it away because he didn't like it. That was just a day or two before this!

We think his new food diet is helping a lot with his tactile sense.

Painting is now one of his favorite things!

Ok, so we're a little early, but Nana sent the boys some new board books to get them ready for Valentine's Day! She sent Marshall "I Spy Little Valentine" and Malcom "I Love You Through and Through". Marshall has claimed them both. He's reading Malcom's book in this series . . .

Taking a break to watch "Curious George", his current favorite movie!

As you can see, Marshall has recently decided to love his fire truck again. We're excited for spring to come so we can bust out the tricycle!

Momma's Boy

Marshall is his momma's boy, and not just in looks . . . he loves books just like I do!

He even likes to look at big chapter books!

But this best part of this series of pictures, is that he's reading the book I've been reading to help with his sensory diet for occupational therapy. (a sensory diet is activities we do with him to help him practice processing and integrating information from his 8 senses)

He's reading, "The Out of Sync Child Has Fun". Its full of fun ideas for me to do with him.

I wonder if he's picked out any favorites?

Maybe he'll mark them for me.

I like to think he knows I'm trying to help him and appreciates it. :)

2 or 3 posts ago, I had a picture of Marshall in his Bronco mohawk hat. I just finished Austin's on Sunday, but Malcom's was done on Dec. 26. Here are some pictures of him in it on the 27th.

Marshall promptly stole the hat and when I found him, he was taking all my clothes out of the dresser and was wearing both hats! He loves that . . . dumping my clothes AND wearing a lot of hats at once.

Marshall, Austin, and Malcom all have Bronco mohawk hats and, apparently, the more hats you wear at once, the better fan you are! Marshall helped create this fashion statement for Malcom in his walker! (Jan 7, 2011)
This picture is from January 15. We are trying a gluten free, casien (something in milk) free diet for Marshall because that helps some children's autism symptoms. He LOVED eating the choco loco cookie bar we bought for him to try!

Marshall is right at that age where he still needs a nap, but doesn't want one. With a baby around, a nap is not always easy to enforce . . . so sometimes it gets skipped. On this particular day, he just wouldn't nap, so I quit trying about 4:30. At dinner time he was crying in his rice because he didn't want to fall asleep. I let him out of his booster and he started to play with balls on the floor in the kitchen. I noticed he was really quiet, so I went in to check on him and this is what we found . . .

Poor baby! He curled up on the rug under the sink and passed out! Some lessons are learned the hard way.

On 9/17/2010 at 2000 Hrs, I got impatient because dad was getting my pajamas ready. For all my daddy knew I was watching "UP" still. HAHAHAHAHA! I wasn't, I jumped in the tub with my clothes on. What will dad think? HAHAHAHAHAH! Dad came around the corner and found me. He luaghed and told mom to get the camera.

It Turned into a family event after that my brother Malcom came and seen what was going on. He looked a little concerned. Dad got Malcom underessed and put him in the tub with me that was fun.

Marshall was playing so quietly in his room . . . when I heard a big crash . . . .several, actually. I went in his rom and all the photos, decorative thingys on the dressers was on the floor and he was triumphantly standing on the top of the tallest dresser. Here's how he got there . . .

Yes, standing. No fear for Crazy Pants!

But he did have the decency to sit down to slide down from one dresser to the next dresser, to the cedar chest. (We had moved it into his room because it was in our room and we kept finding him standing on the windowsill in our room!)

He loves to climb and has little fear about the process.

I had a picture of him standing on the top dresser on my phone, but I think he deleted it. :D

I was surprised to have the mailman knock on my door with a package today! (We're saving up for family pictures next month, so we haven't bought anything online lately.) It was from Aunt Lorraine and had this BEAUTIFUL quilt inside she made for Malcom

Sometimes we don't notice Marshall is growing. Until he can do somethingnew and exciting. One day, I noticed that Marshall can reach things on the edge of the counter tops. This is something I failed to mention to the other grown ups that live in my house . . . .

So, Mandy left a bag of candy on the edge of the counter and Marshall decided he'd like a piece. But he'd definately have to look at ALL of it first!
And CRASH!
He could wade in it! I was nursing Malcom, so I couldn't stop him. I decided not to yell (he wouldn't listen anyway) and took pictures. After all, you're only two once.

I was burping Malcom after a feeding and Marshall got jealous (surprise, surprise) but he climbed up on the arm of the chair and Auntie Mandy helped him sit by me. And yes, he is poking himself in the eye with string cheese. Welcome to the weird world of the two year old.

Life with Mom

Daddy went back to work this week! The boys are adjusting to life with just mom and, well, WAITING THEIR TURN! :) Sorry its taken me a few days to post these pictures . . . its just been busy around here!
Marshall likes to hide out between the pack and play and the couch and read his I Spy board book.
We've discovered that footie sleepers help Malcom sleep longer at night since he can'tkick his feet out of the blankets and get them cold so he wakes up. No more onesies or sleeper sacks unless its a hot night!

I love this sleeper. Even if he did puke on his shoulder when I was taking pictures. ;) Its The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

Marshallls B-Day!

Okay the pictures are backwards but here is Marshall at the end of day on his birthday. He had a fun filled day. He woke up at 8:30 a.m. and got dressed and ate breakfeast. (10:30 a.m.) Than Daddy and him went to the Adventuer Learning Park in Pleasant Grove. Than he came home and ate lunch and had a well deseved nap. (3:00 p.m.) Than Daddy and Marshall went to the Lindon Aquatic ceneter in Lindon were we chilled in the Lzay River for and hour and a half. Than we had Cake and Ice Cream at 7. Marshall was wore out. Went to sleep real quick.

My Dad works for HP and was able to get us a mini - a notebook that is pretty much just for internet stuff. This is great because we have to keep the big desktop in the basement because Marshall likes to push all the buttons (he already broke the CD drive). With my Etsy stuff, its much nicer to have a laptop to use really quick when I get a minute. A mini is, well, little! And since it is a little version of something bigger, Marshall is pretty sure its his. After we e-mailed grandpa this morning, I went to get dressed while Marshall watched Mickey Mouse. I had left the mini closed and on the back of the sofa. This is what he was up to when I came back.

He is very happy with his computer skills. You wouldn't believe the super secret key strokes this kid has figured out! :)

He's been really good with it, so I can't complain. He uses one finger most of the time and tries to make the touchpad work. :)

His crib is still in toddler bed mode, even though he only gets to sleep in his real toddler bed now. Apparently, he still misses it. Almost every day he gets very quiet and when I go in his room to check on him, this is what I find . . . .
Isn't that funny? He just wants to snuggle in his crib.

When I found him in there yesterday, I asked him what he was doing and he ran up to me, hugged my legs and said, "Baby, baby, baby!" I think the translation is, "Can I be the baby a little longer?" Ok, Marshall. You can be a baby. You have plenty of time to be big.

In case you didn't know, Austin is a HUGE Denver Broncos fan . . . and one of his favorite players, Brandon Marshall (no, we didn't name our kid after him - it's a family name that just worked out that way) was recently traded to the Miami Dolphins. We were hoping for Seahawks, but they didn't exactly ask our opinion. Anyhow, this meant that Brandon Marshall Broncos jerseys are super cheap . . . and still useful for our little guy! So this is what Austin bought for Marshall . . .
No, he's not crying . . . he's saying cheese. :)

He's really pleased to be wearing a jersey like Daddy's.

Could you tell? Its so long on him . . . its a youth small, so its really not for him to wear until he's like, 8, but he's still cute. :)

It was a Sunday morning and Marshall had gotten up a little early, but not much. He went into my room and eanted to watch Incredibles. I noticed I hadn't seen him in a half hour or so . . . he usually comes out to check on us . . . and I heard the music from the main menu of the movie repeating, so I went in to check on him . . . . look how cute! (This is after Daddy gave him some covers.)
Here is how I found him . . . all snuggled up on my pillows with his bum in the air, fast asleep.

Easter is Confusing

Easter was a little, well, different for our family this year. Last night we tried to dye eggs with him. He picked up and egg, laughed like a maniac (he's always wanted to hold an egg!), ran into the kitchen and hurled it at the floor. Then he asked to watch a movie. So Daddy and Mommy dyed the eggs. Marshall choose 4:30 as an appropriate wake up time this morning and then crashed at 8. So, the Easter egg hunt was postponed until 12:30. We had to scatter (not hide . . . c'mon, he's only 2o months old!) the eggs in the basement because of the snow. Yes, snow. Here he is with his basket. Dad clued him in to this fun trick.
Every time he put a few eggs in the basket, he'd dump it. I think it was his favorite part. Unless it was the shaking. If the egg made lots of noise, he threw it on the floor and jelly beans would roll everywhere. Then he could suck on each one for a few seconds and then spit it on the floor. If the egg made no noise, he threw it as hard as he could on the floor so it would crack. If it made a little noise, sometimes he'd put it in the basket. That meant chocolate. And my boy LOVES chocolate.

Marshall is a tough kid to photograph. He won't look at you when you want him to, because he is a very busy person. Just in the last couple days, he's started to understand what we want him to do when we get out the camera. He doesn't always do it, but at least there's a chance of him giving in for a minute or two. :)

Where is Marshall?

This made us laugh for an hour! We have two DVD cupboards. One is for Marshall's movies and the other is for the rest of the movies and is tied shut. Marshall LOVES to take all the movies out of the bottom three shelves of his cupboard. He also enjoys taking out the shelves. This night he discovered something else fun to do with his cupboard.
Isn't that hillarious? We didn't even put him in there! He sat in it, stood up, and shut the doors!

My Wild Child

Marshall wishes he could be a ferral child. He LOVES to be outside! He likes to go out at least twice a day, every day. Rain, snow, or shine!
He's so cute about the hat mommy made him - he HAS to put it on before he goes out if I say its cold. He'll even run back in the house to get it!

He loves his shadow. Here he is chasing it up the sidewalk.

A flat basketball he found in the creek with Nana one day. (I promise to buy him realy out of doors toys soon!)

He also loves to get in the van and be Mommy. No, Mommy does NOT wear a hat over her eyes like that when she drives. :)

Often we get in the car and when I turn the key to go somewhere, the radio is blasting, the wipers are going, my caution lights are blinking, and the air conditioner is up full blast. Guess why.

Ok, so you know when you start getting e-mails, its time to put more pictures on the blog! My Etsy shop has actually been keeping me really busy the last couple months (who knew?), but Marshall is busy with Elmo and Austin is busy with Elmo, so here we go. A bajillion posts! Ok, maybe 5.
One funny night in January, Marshall decided to show off for the camera! This is his favorite drawer in the kitchen. He also enjoys climbing in the dishwasher, but Mom is kind of grouchy about that one.

Sometimes Marshall just wants to be his daddy! Notice how messy my room is? Guess who likes to open Mommy's dresser and throw all her clothes on the floor and then lay on them. No, not Austin!

Grandma and Grandpa McDonald got Marshall this cop car for Christmas. Its just like those red and yellow ones, but much more appropriate for our family! Marshall loves it. These pictures are from a morning when he got up and playing in his car was all he wanted to do.

What this IS a picture of is after bathtime. Austin was grabbing Marshall some new pj's and Marshall noticed that he needed a diaper for daddy to put on him, so he pulled a huge stack of diapers onto the floor and he's looking for the perfect one, I guess!

Marshall poes not love the snow. He hates that it makes his hands cold and hates mittens too. Maybe he'll like them next winter. He does, however, love the hat mommy made him. Seriously, he wears it around the house with his pj's before bed.
I managed to catch some not sad pictures of him in the snow.
He's digging in the snow for apples. Our tree is an over-achiever. :)

He noticed that he could pile the snow up and make stuff. He enjoyed that for a little while. Then his hands got cold and he cried next to the house. Oh well.

Today we got some packages from Uncle Trevor, Aunt Michelle, and Atticus. When I told Marshall this was his, he was pretty impressed. He carried it around by the ribbon for awhile. We cut it off and then he decided to stake his claim by turning it into ikea-esque furniture!

Trick or Treat!

I know, posting Halloween at Christmas?!?! Well, welcome to my life. :) Nana bought Marshall an ADORABLE lion costume, which he loved - until Halloween. SO, we put him in his batman jammies and took him to trick-or-treat at Grandma and Grandpa McDonald's house. (This is before it got cold and Marshall learned to wear shoes.)

Puh-kins

Puh-kin is how Marshall pronounces pumpkin. He was so excited when dad cleaned them out and let him play with one.

He liked the way it rolled all funny when he pushed it around on the floor. Also, do you see what is missing in this photo that was in the first one?

I'll give you a hint. He put it in the pumpkin.

One of Marshall's favorite songs from Yo Gabba Gabba is the banana song. I guess it really had an influence on him, because that child tried to eat a banana every day in October!

I love how excited he is to have his favorite treat in this picture! When he'd eat lunch, hed raise his hands above his head and wave them yelling, "anana!" (yes, without the b) Does he still do this? No. Does he still eat bananas? Are you kidding? He's a typical toddler! Favorite foods change regularly.

I got a good deal on Little Tykes toys at Toys R Us back in October and this was a toy Marshall picked himself - I wonder if it has anything to do with watching mommy and daddy play guitar hero?

Today at the Park

Today Aunt Michelle and Atticus hung out at our house. It was fun. Sorry grandmas, we didn't get pictures of the boys together because they just weren't too sure about each other yet. Maybe at Thanksgiving! Atticus needed a nap and Marshall was too interesting, so I took Marshall to the park. We need to go lots before it gets too cold. And it wasn't even raining today! The swings are still Marshall's favorite. Look how bug he's getting!

This picture is funny. He looks so philosophical. He was really just watching a person walk by the park with a dog. We had a lot of fun walking around and crawling around in the woodchips too. Marshall sure loves to go outside and play!

Marshall and Mommy Make Cupcakes.

I've been taking cake decorating classes and I had leftover iced cupcakes, so I decided to make them special for Marshall . . . . Yo Gabba Gabba cupckes! They were a lot of work, but they did turn out cute.
To help Marshall relax while I decorated, I gave him a cupcake, tube of icing he picked out at the grocery store, and the ends of icing bags as I was finished with them. Here's how it turned out.

Funny baby spent most of the time sucking frosting out of a tube! Oh well. He loves frosting. His new favorite lunch is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with frosting on them .

Anyway, he was "helping" and on his way to being trapped in his walker, he managed to grab my colander. Now, what could he use this for?

I'm not posting a picture at the moment, but I wanted to tell you a cute thing Marshall did this morning. He finnished eating his pancakes (and throwing them on the floor), so he said "thank you" until I took him out of his booster. So cute! He's really learning to talk these days! Yesterday he watched Aunt Ashley give Niny some of a Twix and Marshall started talking. I thought he was saying dogie, so he smacked my leg and yelled, "Cookie!" so funny!

Well, last weekend we took a trip to Rexburg for Atticus Butchart's blessing. The pictures are not in order, but I'll tell you all about them!
Marshall is a monkey. Here he is swinging from a tree in Uncle Trevor's yard Sunday without Daddy's help! He loves to swing off stuff! Including playground toys. Oh, and Mommy's oven door . . .

Saturday was Austin's birthday. This is the cake Auntie Mandy made him. Camo with animals! Very cool . . . and yummy . . . . Marshall loved that too.

We took a trip to Bear World for Austin's birthday with Nana, Grandpa, Aunti Mandy, Great Grandma Perkins and Great Grandpa Perkins. They had kiddie rids. Marshall LOVED this crazy car ride, but it made mommy a little motion sick!

Marshall couldn't get enough of this four-day-old fawn. He kept trying to pet it. When we got back home, Nana bought him a stuffed fawn. He loves that too!

Lots of bears and Bear World. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but I still think the bears need more room. There are over 30 in the park!

Baby bears in the baby enclosure. Aren't they cute! Marshall liked to watch them, yell "Bear!", wave, blow kisses, and growl at them.

This is a big Albino Elk. It isn't really Albino. Its something else. His cells don't produce much pigment, so he is mostly white. He was born in the park.
